#ISTAYATHOME · WORK IN THE CORONAVIRUS ERA

The past month and even this beginning of March have undoubtedly been a bizarre time. Your daily life has probably suffered the consequences in a more or less felt way. Closed schools, many canceled events, badly managed information and meandering fear even among the most rational people. Individually each of us will have faced some difficulties. Almost always when in life you meet small and big obstacles these are here, if you put them in the right perspective, to teach you something.

From a general point of view, it was interesting to note that the forced slowdown of production activities in China coincided with the decrease in pollution in those areas. It was predictable, of course, but to have a big change in the coming months/years and manage the climate crisis in which we find ourselves, it was perhaps necessary to touch it. Here, new behaviors have a direct impact on respect for the environment and for man, improving our quality of life.
From distance degrees to online shopping, from work from home to meetings via Skype, it was necessary to reinvent the habits of each of us, and smart working has suddenly become indispensable for most companies, large and small, public and private. Today smart working is rapidly spreading and is considered the key to the work of the future, allowing you to work from home and live healthier, helping environmental sustainability by reducing the emissions that cause global warming. But in what way?

When we think about the benefits of flexible work, we think that it allows us to have a better relationship between life and work, more time with the family, less hours spent driving and moving; but this is only a small part, in fact smart working is also proving a considerable saving of time and resources for companies.
Work agility makes the workforce much happier, inevitably raising productivity. A study carried out by the Hsbc English, shows that 87% of men and 90% of women consider work at home one of the main drivers of the increase in their production levels. The food consumed outside always requires a greater amount of energy and is packed in paper, aluminum or plastic containers, and energy saving and therefore emissions, are generally always much simpler to carry out in a contained space such as home, compared to a large office. Banally, in the home if we do not use a room we turn off the light, which is not always possible in a work space that is constantly crossed by people.
If we consider that instead the offices will have higher management costs and that the prices of the real estate market are skyrocketing, it is easy to imagine that the future will be very different from the past.

So, in a difficult time for the whole of Italy facing an unprecedented emergency, we can learn something. Rationality, union and solidarity: these are the values that we want to send from Italy to the world. The best weapons we have to fight this virus.
