Circular economy, as widely explained, has not only environmental advantages. Circular economy goes hand in hand also with business-related activities and economic benefits.
Precisely because of its advantages (especially in terms of communication and visibility), talking about circular economy is attractive for a lot of fashion brands. For this reason is useful learning to distinguish the correct terminology from the misleading one.
The word leather is for example, often used improperly. Words as faux leather, ecoleather or regenerated leather confuse the final costumers.
As we explained in this post, eco-leather is real leather with animal origin, realized through a production process that has a low environmental impact. The unfair commercial practice realized by a lot of low cost brands consist in adding ecoleather labels to clothes made of PVC or PU, plastic and cheap materials, which are dangerous for our health and for the environment and that are comparable to faux leather.
It’s important also to understand that the word “leather” can be used only in relation to products obtained through the processing of animal remains submitted to tanning processes retaining the natural structure of fibers.
For this reason all the products arising from other sources (such as the processing of food waste) cannot be classified as “leather”.
This is the reason why the best choice for us and for the environment is the regenerated leather that is genuine leather waste of vegetal tanning, which form about 70% of the end product and it is produced with an highly sophisticated process because all wastes are selected, prepared and defibrated.
Environment chooses regenerated leather…and you?
