Now that we have concluded the celebrations for International Women's Day, an event that is celebrated on 8th March each year and highlights the importance of the fight for women's rights, we take this opportunity to reflect on the power of fashion. Fashion is not just a business, or rather, it should not be a simple business: in its essence, it is a powerful vehicle of expression, a visual language capable not only of following trends, but of creating them and, above all, of stimulating new models of thought and behavior also in the fields of rights.
Fashion, in its most authentic form, does not repress individuality but celebrates it. It does not impose, but proposes. It does not limit, but liberates. Yet, the more the fashion industry transforms itself into a mere business, the more it tends to seek conformist models and stereotypes that are easily recognizable and marketable, thus losing its ability to provoke, inspire and, ultimately, innovate.
On the occasion of 8th March, this reflection becomes even more relevant. Women's bodies and rights, often passive objects in the fashion imagination, claim their right to exist outside of imposed patterns. But what game does a brand want to play in this field? Follow the flow opportunistically or take an authentic position and have the courage to communicate, thus also taking on the consequent risks?
Our concrete commitment
At Regenesi we have chosen the second path, placing Respect at the center of our values and we have created an initiative that has given voice to Iranian women through the creation of a Maxi Shopping RE-FLAG, proposed in mélange gray with green and red details that recall the Iranian flag, is not just an accessory but a symbol of solidarity. Made with fabrics obtained from recycled plastic bottles, it perfectly represents our philosophy: giving new life to materials means giving new hopes, new voices. At the same time, we created a line of Re-spect t-shirts that combine sustainability and activism, thanks to the original graphics of the artist Gianluca Costantini, who has always been committed to the fight for human rights through drawing. In both cases, part of the proceeds from the sales was donated to the Polytechnic University of Turin to create a scholarship for Iranian students engaged in STEM studies.
A vision, not just a brand
This is the fashion we believe in at Regenesi: not a fence that limits, but a horizon that expands; not a uniform that homologates, but a manifesto that differentiates; not a business that exploits, but a message that elevates. Always following the vision that beauty is sustainable and that it is possible to generate new beauty starting from waste.
Because true fashion does not follow. True fashion should not repress or manipulate but inspire, provoke, stimulate and enhance.
